Retour sur le Berlin-Ouest des années 1980, avant la chute du Mur, quand les artistes se donnaient rendez-vous, grisés alors par un puissant vent de liberté.

Dans les années 1980, le trio allemand Fraktus triomphait. La critique plaçait ces inventeurs de la musique techno au même niveau que Daft Punk. Mais après une dispute, le groupe se sépare et ses membres disparaissent des radars. Que sont-ils devenus ? Roger Dettner, producteur miteux, part sur leurs traces pour les convaincre de faire leur grand retour. Il interroge d’anciens fans, des stars peu avenantes et finit par retrouver les trois musicos : l’un vit chez ses parents, un autre mène une vie dissolue à Ibiza… Tous trois sont insupportables. Le come-back s’annonce difficile.

MY WONDERFUL WEST BERLIN recounts the lives and struggles of gay men in West-Berlin. Through present-day scenes and never before seen archival footage, a fascinating picture emerges of a city, that today characterizes itself as a dream destination and place of refuge for gays.

Personne n'a mieux saisi l'atmosphère du Berlin des années 1990 que le photographe allemand Daniel Josefsohn, décédé en 2016 à l'âge de 54 ans, qui a laissé sa marque dans la publicité avec son esthétique irrévérencieuse et sa sensibilité punk. Ce sont ses images spontanées et imparfaites tournées pour une campagne MTV en 1994 qui l'ont d'abord rendu célèbre.

At the end of the Cold War, something new arised that should influence an entire generation and express their attitude to life. It started with an idea in the underground subculture of Berlin shortly before the fall of the Wall. With the motto "Peace, Joy, Pancakes", Club DJ Dr. Motte and companions launched the first Love Parade. A procession registered as political demonstration with only 150 colorfully dressed people dancing to house and techno. What started out small developed over the years into the largest party on the planet with visitors from all over the world. In 1999, 1.5 million people took part. With the help of interviews with important organizers and contemporary witnesses, the documentary reflects the history of the Love Parade, but also illuminates the dark side of how commerce and money business increasingly destroyed the real spirit, long before the emigration to other cities and the Love Parade disaster of Duisburg in 2010, which caused an era to end in deep grief.

The film tells a story about the latest musical revolution in recent history – the early days of the rave scene and the golden age of techno culture. International political changes in the mid-80s and early 90s, including the fall of the Berlin Wall and the collapse of the Soviet Union, in a short period of time allowed this cultural phenomenon to become a mass movement which was almost completely independent from the global corporations and which did not fight with the system but created its own system.

Réputée comme l’une des plus grandes métropoles techno au monde, Berlin attire depuis trois décennies les DJ les plus talentueux de leur génération, venus de tous les points de la planète. Pour célébrer trente ans de nuits berlinoises, le célèbre complexe musical Funkhaus Berlin a accueilli en septembre 2018 un événement exceptionnel, dans le cadre du Red Bull Music Festival;
