Une fois encore, Roberto Gavaldón place au premier plan un personnage féminin dont il dénonce en filigrane l'assujettissement social. Dans ce rôle d'une mythomane qui sombre peu à peu, Pina Pellicer, star au Mexique depuis Macario, le précédent film du cinéaste, bouleverse par le naturel de son jeu. Sublimé aussi par la photographie du grand cadreur mexicain Gabriel Figueroa, ce mélo magnifique fut tourné deux ans avant le suicide de l'actrice.
