Dans un petit village côtier perdu au bout du monde vit Tonya, une jeune femme névrosée qui rejette ses pulsions et se retranche derrière un credo religieux qu'elle tente de transmettre au reste d'une communauté qui, elle, vit sa sexualité sans complication et la prend donc pour une demi-folle. Tonya est éprise de Simon mais le méprise ouvertement, ce dernier ayant une liaison avec Mona... qu'il est pourtant prêt à abandonner pour Tonya. Le comportement paradoxal de Tonya est à rechercher dans son passé, lequel ressurgit lorsque son ancienne amie, Selda, revient au village après quelques années passées à Manille.
