Après la mystérieuse disparition de son père, Joventino, le cow-boy José Leôncio devient un riche fermier du Pantanal. Plus de vingt ans ont passé et, amer à cause de la disparition de son père et de la fuite de sa femme à Rio de Janeiro avec son jeune fils Joventino Neto. À l'âge adulte, son fils retourne au Pantanal dans l'espoir de rencontrer son père, mais en raison de visions du monde différentes, les deux ne peuvent pas se comprendre.
