Herasym Kalytka, dreams of hundred thousand rubles to buy as much as possible land. For this purpose he decides to buy notes from the forger. But the forger palmed off to the Kalytka blank papaers instead of banknotes.

Based on a play by Ivan Franko. Anna married Mykola, but does not love him. She likes young Michael. Against the background of the picturesque Carpathian mountains in the nineteenth century unfolds the eternal drama of love and jealousy.

The main film character, an ordinary peasant Martyn Borylya, decided to get a noble order. Having chosen a little and primitive aim, in the chase of the artificial values, he loses everything.

Cheerful and mischievous lad Gritsko offers young Parasya his hand and his heart on the first day of the fair in Sorochyntsi. The girl's father, Cherevik, presents no objection – her stepmother, however, is furious, and refuses to recognise their relationship; Cherevik drunkenly relents. Gritsko alone bemoans his sadness, whereupon a gypsy presents him a deal – Gritsko will sell his oxen to the gypsy if the latter can successfully make Parasya's parents accept their union.

Youchka, jeune villageois un peu naïf, tombe amoureux d'Odarka, une fille du Komsomol (organisation des jeunesses communistes). Tous les hommes du village, sous l’impulsion d’Odarka et de Danila récemment revenu de l’armée, sont devenus sportifs : gymnastes, nageurs ou footballeurs. Youchka décide de devenir comme eux footballeur pour impressionner Odarka. Lors d'un match, il se propose de remplacer le gardien de but défaillant de l'équipe adverse et participe ainsi à la perte de l'équipe du village. On le regarde en traître mais en même temps on reconnaît qu'il était devenu un bon joueur. Bientôt il jouera pour l'équipe du village et gagnera l'estime de tous et le cœur d'Odarka.

A talented craftsman Andrei Panchenko has been appointed head of a large mine. He is full of hope and happy, because next to him is his beloved, charming and reliable Tamara. But not everything goes well for him at work, and a chance meeting with his childhood friend, the lively and cocky Nelka, completely turned his head.
