Mariusz Kwiecien dans le rôle-titre de l'amant le plus notoire du monde mène une gamme étoilée de mozartiens raffinés dans l'élégante production 2011 de Michael Grandage. Luca Pisaroni chante Leporello, le serviteur de Giovanni qui admire et déteste à la fois son maître. Marina Rebeka en Donna Anna, Barbara Frittoli en Donna Elvira et Mojca Erdmann en Zerlina forment le trio de femmes séduites par Giovanni. Ramón Vargas joue Don Ottavio, le fiancé d'Anna, et Joshua Bloom dans Masetto et Štefan Kocán dans le rôle du Commendatore autour du casting. Met le chef d'orchestre principal Fabio Luisi dirige l'orchestre et joue du clavecin continuo.

A tribute to marriage coming from a bachelor is a tad suspicious. But for Beethoven the idealization of the woman-bride was heartfelt and sincere. It has always been a unique opera starring a courageous wife who wows audiences. Fidelio is a moral title, associated with the ideals of liberty of the French Enlightenment. Nobility and commoners are united in their thirst for justice against the oppression of power. For once the faithful consort of a desaparecido wins her battle against a treacherous tyrant, and the collective joy truly is “nameless”, as is sung on the stage. Especially because the “our heroes to the rescue” finale is recounted by the triumphant symphonic flair of the quintessential musician. Beethoven really does bring the world to collapse at the conclusion of this opera, which begins like a delightful little comedy, but which scales and transcends all the summits of the dramatic-musical art.

La mise en scène historique de Robert Lepage de L’Anneau du Nibelungen de Wagner, dévoilée au cours des saisons 2010-2011 et 2011-2012, était la première nouvelle production du Met du cycle complet depuis plus de 20 ans. Combinant technologie de pointe et narration traditionnelle, il fait entrer la vision de Wagner dans le 21e siècle. Jay Hunter Morris est le héros intrépide du titre du troisième volet de l’épopée. Deborah Voigt chante Brünnhilde et Bryn Terfel is the Wanderer, avec le chef principal du Met Fabio Luisi sur le podium.
