Max et Elena mènent une vie de rêve, mais quand les assurances leur réclament une indemnisation qu'ils ne peuvent pas payer, tout bascule du jour au lendemain. Pour rembourser cette dette, Elena doit débourser 40 ans de son existence. Dépouillés de leur avenir ensemble, Elena et son mari Max voient leur vie ruinée.
