How will a storyteller who was not involved in the story pass on the memories in the future?

À travers l'histoire, sur trois générations, d'une famille de commerçants du Kyushu, le film justifie les conquêtes militaires du Japon depuis la Restauration de Meiji (1868). Il retrace surtout la vie de la troisième génération, dans les années 1930 et 1940.
