Après le décès de leur père, la famille Pasti va se retrouver en grande difficulté pour gérer sa propre entreprise de pompes funèbres qui fonctionne depuis des générations. En plus de faire face à la concurrence, les enfants découvrent que leur père a laissé une énorme dette en souffrance depuis des décennies pour non-paiement de la TVA. Pour payer les dettes, les Pasti ont tout misé sur les funérailles du célèbre chanteur de rock Gabriele Arcangelo, décédé accidentellement. Avec la veuve et la toute jeune fille Céleste, les Pasti signent une convention de service, afin de rembourser les dettes, mais bientôt les demandes farfelues de la veuve et de Céleste, pour profiter de la mort du chanteur (réalisé en direct au funérailles, un spectacle de « résurrection » pour la charité), incitent les repas à agir contre leurs propres plans, découvrant qu'ils ont une conscience ainsi que la froideur du… « cassamortaro ».
