Xiaobin, dix-sept ans, ne parle pas un mot d’espagnol lorsqu’elle arrive en Argentine. Après quelques jours seulement, elle trouve pourtant un job dans un supermarché chinois, adoptant le prénom «Beatriz». Sa famille vit dans un monde parallèle, dans une laverie, loin des Argentins. Xiaobin met de l’argent de côté, en secret, et s’inscrit dans une école de langues. Ce qu’elle y apprend, elle s’efforce de le mettre en pratique dans la vie quotidienne. Ainsi, lorsqu’elle apprend à dire «fixer un rendez-vous», elle donne rendez-vous à un client du supermarché, Vijay. Celui-ci est indien et, bien qu’ils se comprennent à peine, les deux jeunes gens entament une relation amoureuse secrète.
