In August of 1914, amidst the public ecstasy surrounding the impending war, Hans Gastl, the young son of a Munich bürger, makes a decision: he will not take part in this war. This resolution signifies a turning point in his life; a farewell to his class and his family.

Victoria Stellmann, head of a traditional cruise shipping company, leads a happy but routine family life. But then she meets the charming Jacques and gets involved in an affair. The angry awakening does not leave long to wait, her lover proves to be an unscrupulous blackmailer. He threatens to publish a video of her night of love. Victoria starts to flee to the front.

Der beliebte Pädagoge Alex Berger (Brandt) steht entgeistert vor seinen Bücherbergen: Eine Schülerin, mit der er Sex hatte,wurde erschlagen am See der brandenburgischen Kleinstadt aufgefunden, nun plant das Kripoteam (Lavinia Wilson, Peter Lerchbaumer) einen Massen-Gentest. Berger beichtet seiner Frau (Corinna Harfouch) den angeblich einmaligen Seitensprung, mit dem Mord habe er aber nichts zu tun. Bergers Familie droht an der Belastung zu zerbrechen… Die Auflösung steht im Hintergrund, der Film konzentriert sich auf das Drama im Hause Berger. Fabelhaft: die dynamische Kamera und das auch in kleinen Rollen nuanciert agierende Ensemble.

In his growing loneliness, Rector Rediger's offer to resume his teaching at the Sorbonne reaches him on one condition: he must convert to Islam.
