Explosions are raging in one of the ports in the territory occupied by the German fascist invaders. At the decisive moment, when the victorious offensive of the Soviet troops forces the German-Romanian invaders to leave Odessa, on the instructions of the Center, Kraft leaves with them for further work behind enemy lines.

The events of the film cover the story of the Kotsiubynsky family in the years 1912-1918, ending with the defeat of the Central Rada and the establishment of a Soviet republic in Ukraine in the spring of 1918.
