1944. Lucien Molard, combattant dans les Forces Françaises Libres, aux côtés des armées alliées, est fait prisonnier par les Allemands et, dans le stalag où il est envoyé, il retrouve son frère. Celui-ci, devenu pianiste dans un palace, bénéficie d'une petite vie presque confortable et des charmes de la directrice Hanna. Lucien, choqué, cherche à convaincre son frère de s'enfuir de ce camp mais ce dernier est bien décidé à rester...

The film tells the story of an unusual love triangle between Johan, Max, and Anna. The action takes place in Berlin after the unification of its eastern and western parts, against the background of its reconstruction and rebuilding.

A Norwegian nurse falls in love with a Finnish soldier in the Winter War of 1939/40 between Finland and the Soviet Union. After settling down WW2 erupts, and he is lost in Finland, as she falls in love with the German soldier Maximilian.
