Three guys decide to rob a bank but everything goes terribly wrong. One of them owns a time machine and they try robbing the bank again but fail to do so. With the time machine they start traveling to the past trying to do it right. In the journey they encounter the butterfly effect and need to get everything back to how it was.

A la fin du XVème siècle, les rivalités entre peintres italiens et flamands font rage, d'autant que ces derniers ont mis au point une technique secrète donnant un brillant et une solidité exceptionnelle à leurs œuvres. Le peintre italien Giacomo Battestini et son apprenti Antonello di Terracina (inspiré d’Antonello da Messina, interprété par Jean-Claude Dauphin) se rendent en Flandres pour essayer de découvrir la fameuse technique. En cours de route, Antonello croise le regard de Maria Cavalieri (Isabelle Adjani), fille du peu recommandable Palestrino Cavalieri (Raymond Gérôme, grand acteur de la Comédie française, interprétant souvent des rôles antipathiques).
