Lianji Liu

Cui, a young Korean mother living on the outskirts of Chinese society, has a husband in jail and a son to support. She barely makes a living selling kimchi to workers along the side of a bleak, industrial road. A love affair with a fellow Chinese-Korean leads to tragic consequences as Cui struggles against the vulnerability of her position.

Harbin, au nord-est de la Chine : Xian, 15 ans, doit, le temps d’une mission de sa mère médecin en Afrique, retourner vivre chez son père. Elle l’estime aussi peu qu’elle l’a vu. Lui tient un petit studio de photo dont l’ambiance kitsch et glamour exaspère la solitaire Xian, au visage sévère. Elle est en revanche fascinée par la belle-fille de son père, jeune femme d'origine coréenne libre, bravache, non sans mélancolie.
