Les Eagles se produisent sur scène pour la première fois en direct en avril 1994 après une interruption de quatorze ans. Le nom de leur album de retrouvailles faisait référence à la citation de Don Henley après la scission du groupe en 1980, quand il avait déclaré qu’ils joueraient à nouveau ensemble seulement lorsque «l’enfer gèlerait». Enregistrés aux studios Warner Bros. à Burbank, en Californie, pour une émission spéciale de MTV, les sessions en direct ont produit onze pistes pour l’album, y compris une nouvelle version acoustique de «Hotel California».
