The reunion forces the two to recall their youthful ambitions and re-examine the choices they've made.

Julie (Vanessa Williams) est une célèbre journaliste et chroniqueuse à Manhattan qui pense avoir tout réussie, un excellent travail, un appartement, un petit ami (Michael Boatman) et sa plus grande fierté son adorable petit garçon de six ans nommé Jake qu'elle a eu via un donneur de sperme anonyme. Cependant, son monde parfait va être chamboulé lorsqu'elle va être convoquée à une réunion parent professeur et va apprendre que son fils est un élève perturbateur et qu'il risque le renvoi... Accablé, Julie se sent coupable puisque sa mère lui avait déjà expliquée qu'il n'étais pas acceptable pour une mère d'avoir un travail qu'il l'empêche d'être souvent à la maison (Eartha Kitt) de par cela elle s'est mise à ressentir le besoin de trouver le père génétique de Jake. Grâce à un détective privé, Julie apprend l'identité du donneur et apprend que Paul (Kevin Daniels), est un acteur en difficulté qui a du mal à décrocher des rôles.
