Agnes is not satisfied with her life. She wants a change, but her relationship with her single parent father and dominant girlfriend inhibit her to do something about it. Selma Lagerlöf's life and work never ceases to fascinate and to be relevant. Selma Lagerlöf broke with the old role of women that she was expected to accept. Against her father's wishes, she applied for, and was admitted to, a teacher training college in Stockholm. She would now be on her own. And she had a particular goal, she knew she had "a strong star"; she had stories in her, and she saw beyond the visible.
