Antonio and Peppino live in a small town in central Italy: Peppino is the barber, Totò is maintained by the rich but avaricious wife Teresa.

A meek and simple-minded boarding school teacher falls in love with a prostitute and gets the boot from school. He tries to have her change her way of living but she is very hard to convince. When she finally realizes he really loves her it is too late.

Father Pacifico is a genuine friar with a brisk manner, for this reason he is nicknamed Father Manisco. The religious finds himself grappling with a thorny case, as Don Liborio, a Neapolitan lord, dominates all local events, including the love choices of his young daughter. Father Pacifico manages to restore harmony and order despite a thousand difficulties.

A comedy with lots of Neapolitan songs and shots of the Bay of Naples finds Maria Morelli unable to marry her singing sailor/lover, Giacomo because her father, Don Salvatdore Morelli objects. She can't elope because her father has an heart ailment and uses it to hold Maria. Giacomo misunderstands and takes off on a global singing tour.

Un ouvrier plombier quinquagénaire, veuf et père, assiste dans un autobus au décès d'un homme. Ce drame sert de détonateur à la prise de conscience du temps qu'il lui reste à vivre (« ses jours sont désormais comptés »). Il ressent, plus que jamais, la nécessité de modifier ses habitudes. Mais, chaque initiative prise dans ce sens ne fait qu'accroître douloureusement son désarroi... Il est, hélas, impossible, à son âge, de changer son destin. Ayant quitté son emploi, il y retourne lucidement, mais toujours aussi convaincu de l'inutilité de son existence.
