Lorsque Nobuyuki était collégien, il vivait sur l'île isolée de Mihama. Un soir, il a commis un crime pour protéger son camarade de classe/petite amie Mika. Le lendemain, un violent tsunami frappait l'île. Nobuyuki, Mika et leur ami Tasuku, ainsi que plusieurs adultes, ont survécu. 25 ans plus tard, Tasuku apparaît devant Nobuyuki, désormais marié à Namiko et père d'un enfant.

For ten years, Eriko has been chasing her dream of becoming an actress in Tokyo. Returning to her hometown for her older sister’s funeral, she realizes that she might have to readjust her path in life. She deciof the to take care of her nephew and to follow in her sister’s footsteps as a mourner-for-hire.

Yuichi Yamada works as a magazine editor. He has recently transferred to Kyoto from Tokyo. In Kyoto, he comes across a French couple who are lost. Yuichi Yamada doesn't speak French and ask for help from nearby tobacco shop owner Yoriko Shindo. Yoriko Shindo speaks French fluently and she is able to help the couple. Meanwhile, Yuichi Yamada takes an interest in Yoriko Shindo.
