Au Brésil, dans l'État de Pernambuco, deux camps s'affrontent sur le plan spirituel et sur celui de la représentation : les défenseurs de la tradition Maracatu, dont les jeunes se distinguent en joutes verbales en préparation du carnaval et les nombreux fidèles de la toujours plus puissante, stricte et rigide Église évangélique. Jusqu'à ce que des événements étranges aient lieu aux abords de la ville.

After years on the run, Joca is back again in town. And, to commemorate, nothing better than a night on the tiles with his good friends Nelsão and Benito. However, the happy occasion turns to a nightmare when Joca is suddenly taken ill. With no money, no transportation or communication, his friends now have to carry him through the deserted town to the closest hospital. A race against the clock is about to begin, with umpteen surprises and enough to shake the firmest of bonds of friendship.

Glória Hartman, a mature woman going through an existential and financial crisis, returns to her hometown, which is undergoing a process of abandonment. Through a crack in the ruins of where the writer Clarice Lispector once lived, Glória begins to see fantastic scenes that will change her life.
