In February 1871, at the dawn of the Paris Commune, Rose Beuret, Auguste Rodin's companion, was alone in the studio. In the absence of her companion, she was responsible for maintaining his sculptures. The clay had to be kept moist every day. In the course of her daily work, Rose develops a strange illness: the skin on her damaged hands gradually turns as grey as the clay. She develops an irrational fear of turning into a statue.

Elias, a twenty year-old student, comes back home for the holidays. He gets back to his mother Françoise and an old childhood friend, Bob. Before Elias left town, they were still lovers. Since, Bob became the town boy's punching bag.

Mister Jones, old blind painter and admirer of Van Gogh, is looked after in a rest home by Bob, a young male nurse with whom he falls in love. As their relation evolves between fantasy and reality, the small room is transforming into one of Van Gogh’s famous paintings.
