Such a gift becomes a starting point for Ani in the world of big ballet, her fast-paced career, position in high society and world fame make her forget about close friends and especially her faithful Michel Fokine, who invested a lot of energy in the formation of a ballerina.

The events take place in 1919 in Bessarabia.

À la fin du XIXe siècle, dans une province de Bessarabie, non loin de l'Empire austro-hongrois. Quatre tziganes galopent dans les montagnes : ce sont des voleurs de chevaux. Ils concluent avec un riche marchand une transaction fondée sur la dette d'honneur. La ruse du propriétaire s'incline devant le magnétisme de Zobar, le chef des voleurs. Au cours d'une expédition, les tziganes sont surpris et poursuivis par l'armée austro-hongroise. Trois d'entre eux meurent sous la mitraille impitoyable des soldats. Zobar, blessé, parvient à leur échapper et tombe épuisé dans un champ. Une belle et mystérieuse tzigane surgit de la broussaille, guérit Zobar avec de « la poussière de lune », et disparaît. Zobar rentre au camp et retrouve les siens, mais il est hanté par le souvenir de la magicienne.
