Deux camarades de combat, Pierre et Paul, se retrouvent à Paris. Pierre est fiancé avec Ellen, Paul voit le mariage d'un mauvais oeil. Tous trois partent au Canada et Pierre apprend qu'Ellen est recherchée par la police et que Paul est le policier qui mène l'enquête. Ellen finit par être incarcérée on laisse supposer à Pierre qu'elle est morte. Il regagne Paris.

Une bande de marseillais, paresseux et heureux de vivre, sont impliqués dans des trafics; Titin, mis pour un moment en prison, est finalement libéré et peut épouser Miette.

L'inspecteur Sergil travaille pour la criminelle à Marseille. Un jour la vieille bonne d'une maison de rendez-vous est assassinée. Sergil interroge clients et employées. Finalement, c'est une jeune droguée qui l'amène à découvrir la vérité: Gaston, le responsable et l'amant de sa femme, Fernand, avaient monté un trafic de drogue et de femmes. La vieille bonne l'avait découvert et les faisaient chanter...

Peter is a talented young composer who has so far not been able to get his revue “Traumschöne Nacht” in a music theatre. Behind the scenes of the “Alhambra”, a Paris music hall, he meets Violetta, a young up-and-coming artist. For her sake, Mr. Maroni, the director of the “Alhambra”, who is in love with Violetta but is rejected by her, has organized a costume party at which the young entertainer appears as a little flower seller. When Peter shows up there too, he believes that Violette is actually selling flowers.

The whimsical Jean Latour wins a competition for a month's holiday on the Côte d'Azur. When he arrives at the "Villa Sans Souci", he discovers that the owner and generous donor, M. Mallez, is a doctor, that the property's guests are sick with nerves, and that Mallez has brought him in to entertain his neurasthenic residents.

Michel Lenoir, a successful interior designer, has reached the middle of his life without ever getting married. A bit blue over it he dreams one night of a beautiful young woman. When he wakes up he is persuaded that this is the girl meant for him. He can't help thinking about her, talking about her, drawing her figure, her face, her eyes on paper. He even gives her a name: Sylviane. Later on, as he is holidaying in Portugal, he notices a charming girl swimming in the pool he is in. No doubt about it : he has found Sylviane. He follows her, talks to her, woos her and they are soon married. However, back in Paris, Michel realizes that Betty, an articulate sports writer, is not the idealized woman his brain had conceived. Things go awry and the couple is about to separate when well-meaning friends intervene and open up Michel's eyes : he must base his love story on everyday reality not on idle dreaming.
