Men da den lokale, jyske cykelmekaniker skruer op for charmen, kommer der kurrer på tråden. Og inden længe har Jens Steen en skandale på hånden, som han kun kan gøre ét for at afvige Selveste Bodil Ipsen instruerede i 1944 et af den danske filmhistories få film-noir dramaer. Besættelse er en fremragende film om følelsernes yderpunkter og tilværelsens ulidelige lethed.

A creditor is dogging them, when a sudden bequest gives them some breathing-space. They buy an old house in a small village, where living is cheaper than in Copenhagen. The villagers are distrustful towards the newcomers. After a while the baker, the butcher and the grocer won't give Poeten and Lillemor credit anymore. Also the old creditor is back dogging them. Should Poeten renounce his high poetical standards and write simple verses for popular music, to get money?

Oct 31, 1941Vi befinder os i en lille Heurigen-Café i Wien. Den unger sanger Fritz Hertzgruber (Max Hansen Sen.) stifter bekendtskab med en ung dansk forfatter, Jesper Ellekilde (Jens Asby), og de to unge mennesker bliver straks venner. Fritz har nemlig som "Wienerbarn" været i Danmark og er nu et ivrigt medlem af Wienerbørnenes egen klub. Aftenen efter finder finder klubbens årlige lodtrækning om en rejse til Danmark sted, og Fritz bliver den heldige - omend af omveje. Fritz og Jesper følges ad til Danmark, hvor Fritz glæder sig voldsomt til gensynet med sine plejeforældre, komponisten Emilius Andersen (Richard Christensen) og hans kone (Helga Frier). De var de sødeste mennesker overfor deres Wienerbarn, og deres hjem står i Fritz' hukommelse som indbegrebet af idyl og harmoni.

The series portrays the lives of the residents of a block of flats on Amagergade, Christianshavn, an old part of Copenhagen.
