Liesje’s parents are divorced. She lives in a nice house with her mother and grandpa. Liesje writes letters to her father who lives in Rio de Janeiro. At least, that’s what her mother has told her. After Liesje’s grandpa passes away, she begins to miss her father more and more. She decides to go visit him in Rio. To get money for the flight, she sells the stamp collection she was given by her grandpa. Without her mother knowing, she boards the plane to Brazil alone – but then she finds out the truth about her father.

Kwak est une série télévisée de bande dessinée basée sur un spectacle de théâtre néerlandais par Herman van Veen et a été coproduit par VARA, Telecable Benelux B.V. et TV Tokyo et présenté en 1989. Il se compose de 52 épisodes. Les personnages de la série ont été conçus par Harald Siepermann. Il y a aussi des jouets et une bande dessinée basée sur la série animée. La série a été diffusée dans de nombreux pays et a été doublée et sous-titrée en néerlandais, français, japonais, grec, anglais, italien, espagnol, hébreu, arabe, hongrois, finnois, serbe, polonais, allemand, suédois, danois, islandais, chinois , Tchèque, coréen et norvégien. En 1991, Herman van Veen a remporté le prix Goldene Kamera pour le dessin animé.
