Pendant la dynastie Song, Song Ci est venu dans le comté de Changting pour occuper un poste et s'est concentré sur l'étude de l'autopsie afin d'écrire les « cas rassemblés d'injustice rectifiées ». Une nuit, un homme et une femme sont morts en même temps, secouant tout le comté. Lorsque Song Ci a entendu parler de l'affaire, il est intervenu dans l'enquête et a constaté que l'affaire était très avancée. Alors qu'il se retrouvait acculé, Song Ci pensa à la femme qu'il n'avait pas osé rencontrer depuis trois ans, le Dan Qing « polyvalent » du comté de Changting. Song Ci s'est donc rendu à Dan Qing pour s'enquérir des deux récents cas de meurtre et a demandé à Dan Qing de se joindre à l'enquête. Après une série d'analyses, de raisonnements et de visites, la vérité est enfin révélée.

Lost in White takes places in the north-east of China, where two bodies have been found under the ice of a frozen lake, their remains made unidentifiable by carnivorous fish, but still bearing the mark of having been dragged with an ice hook. In charge of the investigation is Captain Zhou (Tony Leung Ka Fai), a dedicated cop who's dragging along his teenage daughter Xinyi (Zhou Dongyu). Soon he's joined by Wang Hao (Tong Dawei) a young Shanghai detective who's on a missing person case that has led him to the same village where the murders happened. The two cases prove to be connected: the missing person and the two victims were part of a quartet of businessmen who ten years ago opened a refinery in the region, and disposed of chemical waste in an unethical way that has poisoned the waters and led to malformed babies in the following decade. Is the missing businessman the killer, the next victim or a red herring?

Tells about an accidental death in a remote village in the northwest, which involves a series of sudden murders and "suspects": village doctor Liu Xinshen, psychology student Liu Yun, and Liu Xinshen's wife Kang Xiaoyan, Chen Quan, who was accidentally killed in the countryside, and the villagers who had a grudge with Chen Quan, etc., who is the unsolved murderer? What choice will the protagonist and village doctor Liu Xinshen make after experiencing two moral tortures in his life? The film focuses on the conscience and selfish desires of human nature, and explores the meaning and value of life.

Le film raconte l'histoire de l'illusionniste Zhou Kun et d'un ami d'enfance, Li Jiao Ran, qui sont passés d'ennemis à se connaître et à résoudre des crimes ensemble.
