Hu Ling

In a small county in Shandong Province in 2008, single mother Wei lives alone with her daughter Miao. A mother's desperate efforts to get her daughter into China's top universities through "college entrance exam immigration" change both of their destinies. However, this has put them into an even more precarious situation than when they started.

Lili, a young mother, lives with her gambler husband in a remote part of Sichuan. Lonely and poor, she heads for the city in a bid to earn enough money to save her dying father.

Tang Yijie, the Construction Committee Director, falls off from rooftop and dies in a demolition riot. Yang Jiadong, a young police officer starts his investigation and finds that Tang's death is tied up with another case several years ago. Soon he is framed and suspended from duty, but he never gives up.

Leur rapport tourne au jeu dangereux alors qu'autour d'eux, les étudiants commencent à manifester, exigeant la démocratie et la liberté. Elle tient un journal dont les fragments en voix off illustrent le film d’un bout à l’autre. Ce journal évoque l'inquiétude, l'exaltation et les paradoxes de l'amour absolu.
