At 22, while working in a library with her friend Fran (Bruno Suzano), she goes through the challenges of becoming an independent woman, having to deal with the pain of losing her parents. The feature film debut of Brazilian actor/director João Côrtes, By Those Hands that Lead Me is a nuanced coming-of-age film about love, empowerment and overcoming your fears.

L’histoire débute lors d’un voyage au Pérou qu’effectuent les Khoury, riche famille brésilienne de médecins propriétaire d’un hôpital, afin de célébrer un événement important de la vie de leur fille, Paloma : son entrée en école de médecine.  C’est là que démarrent les tensions au sein de la famille. Félix, le fils aîné, a mis au point un plan machiavélique pour nuire à sa sœur. Persuadé qu’elle a été adoptée, il compte devenir le seul héritier de la fortune familiale.  Lorsque Paloma découvre ce que Félix affirme être la vérité, elle décide de tout plaquer. Elle fait alors la rencontre de l’aventureux Ninho, dont elle tombe amoureuse et avec qui elle s’enfuit. Mais une grossesse imprévue l’oblige à retourner au Brésil. 

This is the story of a young couple, Dafne and Gabriel, who are separated by her grandfather Jaques, a millionaire who couldn’t handle that his granddaughter was in love with a poor guy. After an accident, Jacques is presumed dead and leaves his business to Dafne, but on the sole condition that she marries. Judith, her grandfather‘s stepdaughter, takes over the business temporarily and schemes to pair Dafne with her brother Nicholas in order to consolidate her claim. Dafne and Gabriel meet again when his unkown daughter decides to find her father, but discover that a passion is only completed when one fulfills the other‘s dream.
