A tram pasted with posters travels through Prague. The mounted loudspeakers invite passers-by to a series of concerts of Giuseppe Verdi's masterpieces. On the tram a party of young people is getting drunk.

A day in the life of Arnošt, a soldier staying in Josefov. A sense of desperation permeates the environment as well as the mind of the protagonist. It is sunday, and saturday left just a hangover. Days go by, nothing changes. A metaphor for the political situation in the Czech lands at a time where depicting a soldier as a drunk was considered out of place to say the least.

Andrej, qui est pilote de guerre, est d’un naturel combatif et décidé. Juraj, son frère, est un artiste sans cesse agité par le doute sur lui-même et sur sa vie. Andrej rend visite à Juraj et fait la connaissance de Jana, son amie. En plaisantant, il propose à son frère de lui prendre Jana.
