Benvenuto Cellini
Apr 12, 2018The Florentine sculptor and silversmith Benvenuto Cellini rapidly attained a degree of renown that went beyond the confines of Italy. Invariably embroiled in conspiracies, intrigues and quarrels, Cellini is commissioned by the Pope to cast a large sculpture of Perseus. He is loved by Teresa, but she is promised to Fieramosca, an academic artist who has not been favoured with a papal commission. Terry Gilliam’s exuberant production draws the protagonists into a delirious and joyful yet claustrophobic and megalomaniac world: a flaring up of contagious madness.

Sep 10, 2020Lorsque l’abbé Prévost signe en 1731 L’Histoire du chevalier des Grieux et de Manon Lescaut – qui inspirera à Massenet sa Manon – c’est le tableau d’une époque qu’il nous livre : celle de la Régence, qui voit la vieille société s’éteindre tandis qu’une nouvelle semble naître, pleine de la promesse d’une liberté nouvelle. C’est entre ces mondes qu’évolue Manon, fuyant le couvent pour embrasser les chemins du désir et de la transgression, et se jeter à corps perdu dans une passion brûlante et autodestructrice avec des Grieux. Une parenthèse s’ouvre, qui se refermera dans la douleur et dans la nuit. Le metteur en scène Vincent Huguet s’affranchit du taffetas historique de l’œuvre pour en faire ressurgir toute la violence.

La soirée est également ponctuée par des lectures de textes classiques. Cette soirée est également un hommage vibrant aux artisans et ouvriers qui ont oeuvré à la renaissance de la cathédrale, joyau architectural qui surplombe Paris depuis le XIIe siècle.
