Count Almaviva lives with his Countess on their estate near Seville. The Count has his eye on his wife’s maid Susanna, who is betrothed to the Count’s servant, Figaro. Much to Figaro’s dismay, the Count plans to seduce Susanna on wedding night. Meanwhile, Cherubino, the Count’s young page, is infatuated with the Countess, but has just been dismissed after being discovered with Barbarina, the gardener Antonio’s daughter.

Lorsque la courtisane la plus voluptueuse et la plus recherchée du monde rencontre un moine ascétique dont la vie est consacrée à Dieu, on sait que des étincelles érotiques vont jaillir. Et quand le choc a lieu dans un opéra glorieux mais rarement joué de Massenet, c’est un délice pour les oreilles autant que pour les yeux. Renée Fleming est la Thaïlandaise glamour, enveloppée dans des robes élégantes conçues par Christian Lacroix. Thomas Hampson est l'homme de Dieu torturé. Cette production de John Cox, créée en décembre 2008, prépare avec brio le terrain pour une confrontation aussi vieille que la civilisation elle-même.

La nouvelle production du réalisateur David McVicar donne une nouvelle vie au programme double préféré de l'opéra, plaçant les deux opéras dans le même décor sicilien, séparés par deux générations. Marcelo Álvarez réalise le rare exploit de chanter les deux premiers rôles de ténor. Dans Cavalleria, il est Turiddu, le jeune homme qui abandonne Santuzza (Eva-Maria Westbroek) dans sa poursuite de Lola mariée (Ginger Costa-Jackson) - et finit par être tué en duel avec son mari, Alfio (George Gagnidze) . À Pagliacci, Álvarez est Canio, le chef d'une troupe itinérante de vaudeville. Patricia Racette chante Nedda, sa jeune épouse infidèle, dont les plans de fugue avec son amant sont déjoués par son admirateur éconduit Tonio (George Gagnidze) – avec des conséquences tout aussi tragiques. Star soprano Anna Netrebko scored a triumph in Laurent Pelly’s acclaimed 2012 production, singing the title heroine for the first time at the Met. Manon’s story—from innocent country girl to celebrated courtesan to destitute prisoner—is one of the great tragic tales in literature and music, and this performance brings out all of its colors, as seen through Massenet’s masterful score, from the comedic beginning to the heart-wrenching finale. Piotr Bezcala is des Grieux, Manon’s lover, who decides to become a priest when she leaves him, but ultimately is reunited with her, only to lose her again. Paulo Szot sings Lescaut, and Fabio Luisi conducts the Met Orchestra and Chorus.

Eva-Maria Westbroek stars in the title role of Zandonai’s sensuous drama, opposite Marcello Giordani as Paolo. Piero Faggioni’s lush production provides the perfect setting for one of the all-time great tales of tragic passion, adapted from an episode in Dante’s Inferno. Mark Delavan co-stars as Giovanni, the husband and brother of the star-crossed lovers, whose jealousy leads him to kill them both. Robert Brubaker is Malatestino and Marco Armiliato conducts.

Peter Sellars’s Metropolitan Opera production, based on his 1987 world-premiere staging, features choreography by Mark Morris and stars James Maddalena as Nixon, Robert Brubaker as Chairman Mao, Janis Kelly as First Lady Pat Nixon, Russell Braun as Chinese Premier Chou En-lai, and Kathleen Kim as Chiang Ch’ing, Mao’s wife.
