Sally Reynolds trouve un emploi de secrétaire chez Mr Franz, fabricant de poupées. Elle rencontre Bob Westley, le commercial de Mr Franz et en tombe amoureuse. Ils envisagent de partir vivre à St Louis mais le jour du départ, Bob disparaît. Persuadée que Mr Franz a transformé Bob en poupée mannequin, comme un certain nombre d’autres personnes l'ayant côtoyé, elle se retrouve confrontée au fabricant de poupée et s’évanouit. A son réveil, elle découvre avec horreur qu’elle a été miniaturisée.
