The images of the condemnation and execution of dictator Nicolae Ceaușescu and his wife Elena on Christmas Day in 1989 are etched deeply in the collective unconscious of several generations of television viewers. Exactly 20 years after its occurrence, the famous show trial was re-enacted in a historically reproduced setting. The film interweaves the stage production with interviews conducted with eyewitnesses and archive material, and takes a look backstage in the Odeon Theatre in Bucharest.

Adi (40), a shy and introverted anthropologist who got recently dumped by his girlfriend, moves to Ferentari, most notorious outcasted neighborhood in Bucharest. He wants to write a study on manele music. The pop music of the Roma community serves as a way out for some, but mostly as one more means for the mafia pimps to make money off their acts and keep them in slave-like dependency. While researching his subject, Adi meets Alberto, a Roma ex-convict and a bear of a man, who promises Adi to help him. Soon, the unlikely pair begins a playful romance in which Adi feeds Alberto with improbable plans of escaping poverty and Alberto reciprocates with well-concocted phrases of love. Little by little their casual affair grows into love. And the funny and sweet teasing turns into something precarious, since Alberto is both dangerous and fragile and belongs to a world whose codes Adi doesn't understand.

En 2001, pendant la dernière journée du G8 de Gênes, quelques instants avant minuit, plus de 300 officiers prennent d'assaut l'école Diaz, à la recherche des militants du Black Bloc. Dans l'établissement, se trouvent 90 activistes, dont la plupart sont des étudiants européens accompagnés de quelques journalistes étrangers, qui s'apprêtent à passer la nuit à même le sol de l'école. Alors que les forces de l'ordre font irruption, les jeunes manifestants lèvent les mains pour se rendre. Imperturbables et implacables, les policiers se livrent à des exactions préméditées d'une violence inouïe, frappant indifféremment jeunes et vieux, hommes et femmes.

Mercredi Addams est envoyée par ses parents, Gomez et Morticia, au sein de la Nevermore Academy, à Jericho dans le Vermont, après avoir été une nouvelle fois expulsée d'un lycée. Nevermore est un établissement pour enfants particuliers, dirigé d'une main de fer par Larissa Weems, l'ancienne colocataire de Morticia lorsque toutes deux y étaient étudiantes. Mercredi doit alors appréhender cette nouvelle vie, tout en enquêtant sur une série de meurtres qui terrorisent Jericho et en essayant de maîtriser les visions qu'elle a depuis quelques mois.
