In present-day Texas, Maya and her on again, off again girlfriend Jules total their car after a night of backwoods raving and teen mischief. They're rescued from the wreckage by Freddy, an oil worker whose stoic facade crumbles as he comes to see himself, and his repressed desires, in Maya. As Jules recovers, Maya and Freddy develop a rapport that dulls the debilitating silence of their small-town lives. Together, they subtly encourage one another to chase after what they want the most (or at least figure out what that might be).

Hunter Wilde is the leader of a group of Christian survivalists who are trying to live as normal as possible two years after an EMP attack and knocking all the power down. In a world of chaos living day to day has become more treacherous. But that is nothing compared to when the gates of hell are opened up and demons are commissioned to seek and destroy the remaining believers on earth. Their targets are set on Hunter. If they can break him the whole town of Crossroads will follow.

Tyrone Johnson et Tandy Bowen, deux adolescents issus de milieux sociaux différents, découvrent suite à leur rencontre qu'ils sont tous les deux dotés de superpouvoirs qui étaient jusqu'ici dormants et qui les lient mystérieusement l'un à l'autre. Face à leurs sentiments naissants et aux nombreuses menaces du monde qui les entoure, Tyrone et Tandy ne tardent pas à comprendre qu'ils sont plus forts ensemble et ont tout intérêt à s’allier plutôt qu’à poursuivre des routes séparées.
