Après la mystérieuse disparition de son père, Joventino, le cow-boy José Leôncio devient un riche fermier du Pantanal. Plus de vingt ans ont passé et, amer à cause de la disparition de son père et de la fuite de sa femme à Rio de Janeiro avec son jeune fils Joventino Neto.
