Il y a quelque mille ans en Laponie. Aigin, adolescent de retour de la chasse, retrouve toute sa famille massacrée par un groupe de guerriers tchudes. Repéré, il parvient a s'enfuir et trouve refuge dans un campement lapon voisin. Cependant, blessé, il a laissé des traces derrière lui. Certains hommes de la tribu lui reprochent de les avoir mis en danger et décident de s'enfuir. Aigin reste seul, bien décidé à venger sa famille. Quelques heures plus tard, des Lapons reviennent pour l'aider, mais ils sont à nouveau massacrés. Aigin propose alors un marché aux Tchudes.

Tells of the years during the allied occupation of Iceland from 1940-1945. While a number of scenes depict daily life in Iceland (a combination of live footage and staged sequences), a substantial part of the film is concerned with military activities in Iceland and abroad, and the political development which lead to the proclamation of the Republic of Iceland in 1944. The film includes archive footage from English, American, German and Norwegian sources and incorporates interviews with people who lived through the era.

Norway in the 10th century. Askur, son of the powerful Thorgeir marries Embla, daughter of one of the few remaining landowners in Norway, in a pagan ceremony. King Olav, a ruthless christian, wants to eredicate all traces of non-christian beliefs and captures the two of them during the ceremony. Our hero is Umbi (an acronym for emissary of the bishop), sent by him to undertake an important investigation at Snæfell-glacier. In particular he is to look into the conduct and behavior of Jón Prímus, the old pastor at Snæfell. Fantastic rumors are rife: amongst other things it is said that a corpse is lodged in the glacier! Armed with his tape recorder and notebook, Umbi embarks upon his mission. He tries to question the weird locals, a weird lot, but gets evasive answers. Slowly he is dragged into a quagmire of strange happenings and his efforts to understand only make him confused. If at the beginning he is a chipper, a mere device, by the end of the story he is inextricably involved, a committed participant in the bizarre events.

A seven-year-old boy is sent to a farm on a remote island, when his mother goes abroad. On the island the boy gets to know a twenty-year-old woman who seems willing to take on a mother's role. But the boy is reaching an age of sexual awareness and instead of regarding her as a mother figure; he falls obsessively in love with her.

In a barren land ruled by oppression and ignorance, a spirited woman driven by hope of a better life must fight against the odds. Agnes is a servant in the house of the county sheriff. There she is constantly sexually harassed by him and treated with contempt by his wife. Agnes falls in love with Natan, a self taught homoeopathic doctor. The sheriff takes revenge on Natan by making it illegal for him to practice his profession. The dramatic relationship between the three main characters ultimately leads to a fatal web of events where a love affair turns into a nightmare of brutality and destruction.

Set on a remote farm on the west coast of Iceland in late summer 1936. Hrefna, encouraged by her grandmother’s stories, begins to mix past and future in her imagination, travelling back to the 14th century.

Maria is somewhat of a rebel and problem child. Her mother died and her father remarried some awful lady, and Maria isn't happy at all. She takes a drug overdose and winds up in a home for other girls with problems, but the two women who run the place turn out to be not quite the ladies they seemed. Maria knows she can't stay there very long, and starts planning her escape.

Two city folk go on a trip to deserted villages around the country, laden with spirits, guns, and other ammunition. The trip is intended as an outing in nature, but quickly the journey turns into pure horror.

A young couple moves into an old house. She teaches deaf children, he is a musician, working on his own compositions. Their separate worlds, one silent, the other full of sounds, create a vivid pattern of contrasts, which affect their emotional lives and their living together. From the time they move into the house, they are strangely aware of something odd, especially she, while he concentrates more and more upon his work. A series of incidents adds to her growing uneasiness about the house. Its past seems to creep in on her. She feels as if some tragedy must have befallen the people that lived there before, but when she starts asking around she gets few answers. There is something about the house that seems to be on the verge of overpowering her - something that in an unexpected way is related to her origins and permanently affects her life and destiny.
