The most common goods taxed was salt. Its geographical position was significant during 1920s as well, while some speculate that the main hero of this story, Perisa, accumulated his fortune exactly in this way...

Après l'offensive de Kozara menée par l'Axe, la majorité de la population serbe locale se retrouve dans les camps de concentration croates d'Oustachi. Sans aucune information sur l'endroit où se trouve son père, Dara, 12 ans, sa mère et ses deux frères sont transportés au camp de concentration de Jasenovac en train. Dara est séparée de sa famille et envoyée dans un camp spécial pour enfants avec son frère Budo, âgé de deux ans. Sa mère et son frère aîné sont tués par des Oustachi. Dara se fait une mission et un objectif personnels d'assurer la survie de son jeune frère. Dara observe la cruauté des officiers du camp et est choquée par la violence. Un soir, les gardes conçoivent un jeu de chaises musicales pour divertir les officiers nazis allemands en visite. Le perdant de chaque tour est ouvert ou matraqué par un marteau. Avec l'aide d'un prisonnier juif, Blankica, Dara trace une voie pour s'échapper.

Our story opens with a myth that every year seven people end up in the sea, because the sea is the beginning and the end of everything, it is the source of life and of survival, therefore a human sacrifice must be presented to it, willingly or unwillingly. The story is set in a place connecting present times and the past, the characters present and those disappeared, the living and the dead. Myths and legends determine the lives of the characters of the series "Debt to the Sea" in a specific way, and their interconnected complex destinies are told in a mystic atmosphere. Is the legend about the sea taking human offerings true? Are only the two stones with the same sign carved in them to be blamed for all the events, or are the reasons hidden among people and their secrets?
