Juste au moment où il semble que les choses ne peuvent pas empirer, sa mère décède et il se retrouve avec une lourde facture pour les frais d'hôpital et d'obsèques. Visiblement incapable de payer, mais déterminé à renvoyer sa mère lui-même, Ryo vole son cadavre et le place dans une petite barque. Après la cérémonie funéraire de fortune, Ryo se rend à Tokyo pour rencontrer son père absent.
