Lost among strangers, a sensitive princess, a famous writer and an unwelcome devil try to find their place in an unfamiliar world. With his accessible and willingly facetious music, French composer Gérard Pesson has created an operatic adventure through three fairy tales. Their marvels are treated with fantasy and delicacy by librettist and director David Lescot.

After the success of the DVDs devoted to Le Bourgeois Gentilhomme and Cadmus & Hermione, Vincent Dumestre and Le Poème Harmonique continue their exploration of repertoires of the 17th century.This piece, combining theatre and music, allowed Purcell to achieve his dramatic ideal. In fact, he wrote only a single opera in his short career he died at the age of 36 , but with it, he left us a gem of rare beauty and extreme concision. The work's genius is also due in part to the quality of the libretto, skilfully put together by Nahum Tate.Cécile Roussat and Julien Lubek, stage directors coming from the arts of the circus and the mime Marceau, had already collaborated with Le Poème Harmonique on the Carnaval Baroque. Here, they combine mime, dance and acrobatics with the music in a moving, magical production.

La Flûte enchantée est une œuvre unique bien qu’elle s’inscrive dans la tradition du Singspiel, la version allemande de ce qu’en France on appelait l’opéra comique et dont la particularité est de mêler dialogues parlés et chant. Page tout aussi mystérieuse que fascinante, elle fut composée quelques semaines avant la mort du musicien. Le livret de Schikaneder, frère en maçonnerie de Mozart, s’est depuis longtemps prêté à toutes les interprétations : récit symbolique, conte allégorique, fable populaire, comédie féerique… Chacun y trouvera sa Pamina. Au-delà, reste la musique de Mozart, tout empreinte de légèreté virevoltante où le rire, l’émotion et la gravité alternent avec brio. Ce long chemin de l’enfance à l’âge adulte, des émois adolescents à l’amour ne peuvent que trouver résonances chez le cinéaste Cédric Klapisch.

Bruyant, chantant, trépidant et frivole, le Paris d’Offenbach s’affiche comme la ville de la fête et des plaisirs, mais aussi celle des masques et des faux-semblants... Alors que la capitale se prépare à accueillir un flot de visiteurs étrangers pour l’exposition universelle de 1867, Offenbach compose avec les librettistes Meilhac et Halévy un opéra-bouffe où règne un joyeux cosmopolitisme, entre barons danois, bottiers allemands et gantières marseillaises – sans oublier ce riche Brésilien venu dilapider son or en "galantes ivresses". Si "La "vie parisienne", triomphe absolu dès sa création en 1866, fut remaniée par Offenbach lui-même, la partition d’origine, alors trop ambitieuse pour ses chanteurs, n’avait jamais été donnée dans son intégralité. C’est le défi que relève cette nouvelle production, revenue à ses cinq actes originels
