Alicija (33), a Polish-born liberal free-thinker, joins the Awakening movement in occupied Latvia. Her newlywed husband Ilgvars (53), a man with the experience of another generation, calls her to be more careful and cautious. With the support of a close friend, the poet Normunds (40), Alicija soon comes to the forefront of the Singing Revolution. However, alongside the first success, difficulties appear – Alicija receives an anonymous letter accusing Ilgvars of being a former KGB informant. His ambiguous answer leads to her wanting to find out the truth. Realizing that her husband’s actions in the KGB have affected the fate of her close friend, Alicija faces an unenviable choice. Torn by internal contradictions, she continues her work to restore the country’s independence, unable to find courage to resolve the situation. Alicija buries herself in her work and the emotional connection with her husband gradually fades away.

Diana, a woman in her early 40s, struggles to end an abusive relationship with her husband while also trying to protect the only possession their family have left – an apartment in a luxurious part of the city. As the couple’s daughter Astra gets involved in the conflict, Diana will have to make a choice between Astra’s wellbeing and her own goals and convictions.

Sabine announces to her husband Andris that she has a new occupation – online therapy that lasts 3 minutes. She tries to get her husband to agree to be her first therapy “guinea pig”. During this “therapy” Sabine finds out that she’s controlling and although her husband tries to satisfy all her whims, it is never enough for her. Sabine gets her first client – ex-colleague Dainis. Sabine is convinced that Dainis wants to talk about their relationship because he cannot deal with her rejection. But Dainis has an unpleasant surprise for Sabine – he has a girlfriend.

Lulu is a young woman working in real estate, but in her heart, she longs for a career that’s more suited to her idealistic character. By chance, she meets Gerda, who gives her the opportunity to do social work and really help people. But the job turns out to be more challenging than she thought. As she engages in the complicated work of saving the world, Lulu breaks up with her boyfriend and moves back in with her mother, who is herself trying to start over, and her cynical grandmother, who ruthlessly criticises the professional and romantic lives of both women.
