In early April 1945 a small British ambulance unit was diverted from frontline battle in northern Germany, to handle an unfolding medical crisis behind enemy lines. A local prison camp had suffered an outbreak of typhus. That prison camp was Bergen-Belsen. The British had no idea of the true scale of this humanitarian catastrophe nor of what it would come to represent.

The comfort-seeking Maja tries to regain control over her life following her recent divorce. 'Take My Hand' is a romantic comedy with all the drama that follows when our perceptions of love are turned upside down.

The film is based on Christian Kampmann's novels: "Certain Considerations", "Solid Relationships", "Clean Lines" and "Other Ways" (1973-75). The Gregersen family is a picture of inner and outer Denmark from the mid 50's to the 70's. The story begins in 1954 in the well-behaved, but not just successful, Gregersen family from the best part of the whiskey belt on the right side of Strandvejen.

In this blend of historical drama and original source material, the story of this decisive year is remagined, not from the saddles of kings and conquerors, but through the eyes of the ordinary men who fought on their behalf.
