A nurse in a relationship with a truck driver named Charlie, who gets an opportunity to play a role in a new upcoming film, is made famous overnight. Jealousy ensues with drastic consequences.

For twenty-three years, five western nations, members of the Soviet bloc and two superpowers were locked into a war never formally declared. It all began in 1966. Once the Draft started, every able-bodied white South African male was called up for service.

Pop le Roux is a beautiful, but relatively uneducated, boer girl from a poor family. The young men of the county all compete with each other to win her favor. The man she loves is Manie Cronjé, He is just as poor and Pop sees no chance of suffering further. She eventually marries Jan Greyling, the rich widower. Gradually she adapts to her new life and becomes a good wife for Jan.
