Kaoruko Harima a deux enfants. Elle vit séparéé de son mari Kazuaki. Ils ont accepté de divorcer après la fin de l'examen de leur fille à l'école primaire. Un jour, ils apprennent que leur fille s'est noyée dans une piscine. Le médecin les informe que leur fille est en état de mort cérébrale et qu'elle n'a aucune chance de se rétablir. Le couple a deux choix. Un choix consiste à faire don des organes de Mizuho à d'autres personnes dans le besoin et leur autre choix est d'attendre que le cœur de Mizuho cesse de battre.

Sugimoto Taeko moves in with her daughter Natsuki and granddaughter Mizuki. They begin a lively life together. In the midst of it all, Taeko sees her former self in Mizuki. The bitter taste of the first pineapple she ever ate, the disastrous score on a math test, the awakening of her acting spirit at a school performance. As Taeko recalls her elementary school days, she unleashes a dream that she had long given up on and sealed away. 'I'm going to be on stage!' Taeko immediately auditions and devotes herself to rehearsing for a Shakespeare play. But just then, the theatre where she was going to perform goes bankrupt, and she is forced to give up on her dream again!

Yuko Morimiya is a high school student and she lives with her stepfather Morimiya. Morimiya is her third father. Her mother, Rika, is a free spirited person and has remarried several times. She disappeared from Yuko's life at a certain point. Even though Yuko and her stepfather are not blood related, she is fully loved by him.

Goro is a gynecologist and idol fan who’s in shock after his favorite star, Ai, announces an impromptu hiatus. Little does Goro realize that he’s about to forge a bond with her that defies all common sense! Lies are an idol’s weapon!

Takano Aki is a happy, ordinary housewife whose family (sweet husband and two kids) has moved to their dream apartment. Just as they are starting their new life, they encounter an ominous, terrifying neighbour, Sasaki Yumiko, who manipulates the dark emotions of pride, vanity and jealousy of the housewives living in the apartment building. There seems to be a connection to the kidnapper and the frightening neighbor.

Mano Reiji est un brillant expert de la police scientifique. Ne se laissant pas influencer par les préjugés ou les suppositions, il ne jure que par les résultats objectifs de ses analyses. Il a vécu un drame dans son enfance et continue de chercher la vérité dans cette affaire. Sawaguchi Nonna fait ses débuts dans la police scientifique. Pas vraiment prédestinée à ce travail ni très à son aise dans cet univers, la jeune femme prend finalement conscience de l'importance de sa tâche au contact de Mano dont elle brise petit à petit la carapace. Tous deux collaborent tant bien que mal avec le policer vétéran Toramaru Ryohei plus du genre à faire confiance à son instinct et à sa longue expérience.

Mikoto Misumi is a pathologist at UDI (Unnatural Death Investigation) Lab. She can't stand neglecting unnatural deaths and believes there must be a truth behind the deaths. Team members that work with her are autopsy doctor Kai Nakado, recorder Rokuro Kube, clinical test technologist Yuko Shoji and UDI director Yasuo Kamikura. They work on unnatural death cases and try to reveal the truth behind the deaths.
