Avec Les Jours et les nuits (qui recouvre l'année 1986 de mes Carnets filmés), je fais un compte-rendu méthodique de mes travaux cinématographiques: création de nouvelles séries (Lire, Trio, Avec Mariola), tournage d'un nouveau long-métrage (Amours décolorées que je mettrai dix ans à monter) avec Mariola San Martin. C'est aussi la rencontre avec Pierre et Dominique Laudijois à Châteauroux qui m'invitent à participer comme acteur à leur film Joe from Maine. C'est encore et toujours mon filmage de la cérémonie de la reconstitution de la Passion du Christ à Burzet dans l'Ardèche et une curiosité: une pellicule, non développée, filmée par Charlotte Laurier au Québec que j'ai retrouvée dans une caméra que je lui avais prêtée.

Le point de départ du film est une interview de Godard en juin 68, jamais diffusée, où il barre l'image de son bras, pour figurer l'impossibilité de filmer "comme avant", prônant ainsi le gaspillage de la pellicule et la résistance au film commercial. Le film pose la question : que deviennent les acteurs d'un film si on leur supprime leur texte ou scénario ?
