Lorsque outlaw Clay McCord apprend le gouverneur du Nouveau-Mexique a offert une amnistie à tous ceux qui la demandent à la ville de Tuscosa, il est intrigué mais suspect. Il fait le tour du voisinage, pesant l'offre et de rencontrer d'autres hors la loi, tout en troublé par "sorts" occasionnels ressemblant aux crises d'épilepsie qui sévissaient son père. Finalement McCord atteint Tuscosa où il se heurte avec le maréchal local, Roy Colby. Le gouverneur arrive alors et tente de calmer la situation, sachant que si McCord demande d'amnistie, d'autres proscrits suivront. Événements conduisent à une fusillade avec McCord, Colby, et le gouverneur d'un côté tandis qu'une bande de brigands comprennent l'autre.
