À la fin des années 1950, sous la dictature d’Enver Hoxha, la jeune Luana, pour échapper à la malédiction d’être née fille, choisit de devenir un homme. Une réflexion empreinte de délicatesse sur la tradition des "vierges sous serment" albanaises.

Rikard, après avoir été exproprié de son domicile par son propre fils, compte sur la gentillesse de sa fille, Ema, et de son mari, Lorenc, qui lui offrent un chalet dans les "montagnes maudites".

Victoria is an irresponsible employee at the German embassy in Kosovo. She makes a ghetto life. She gave a one year visa only because a guy from Kosovo had sexual intercourse with her. She was dismissed from the embassy, and by chance, they see each other in the airport as they travel to Germany.

With war raging around them a terrified young couple lock themselves up in their apartment with their baby without food or milk. They need to leave the apartment but are afraid because their hungry baby cries so much that the soldiers will hear and catch them. Panicking, the frightened father curses the baby.
