2053. Quatre astronautes, assistés d'un robot, sont en mission de deux ans dans une base souterraine sur Mars. Une découverte imprévue va les mettre face à une grave responsabilité vis-à-vis de la Terre. Ils commencent alors à être victimes de violentes crises d'hallucination.

Pierre, généticien pigmentaire, aime être invisible aux yeux des autres. Lorsqu'il se retrouve contraint de travailler avec Lucie, la fille qu'il aime secrètement, il panique. Il met au point un produit chimique qui, au lieu de l'aider à faire face à sa timidité, le rend réellement invisible. Pourtant, c'est bien grâce à son invisibilité que Pierre va peu à peu redevenir visible aux yeux de Lucie.
