Theatrical adaptation of the manga Chainsaw Man by Tatsuki Fujimoto.

This feature drama, produced to celebrate the 60th anniversary of Fuji TV, is an adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic masterpiece Les Miserables set in the 1990s in Japan. In Kobe in 1993, Jun Baba gets taken to a juvenile prison due to a killing of a man who cheated his mother out of all her money in self-defense. One day, he hears that his younger brother, who has been desperately ill, is in a critical condition and breaks out. However, he finds out his brother is already dead. In the depth of despair, he tries to kill himself but is saved by a man who runs a self-support facility. He begins to live at the place, and befriends with Takumi Watanabe aspiring to be a lawyer. In 1995, the Great Hanshin-Awaji Earthquake hits and their friendship comes to an end. Crushed under the debris, Takumi persuades Jun to live his life instead. Jun swears to live on assuming Takumi's identity.

Ittetsu and Maitsuko are married, but they are not just any normal couple. They robbed a bank and took a cool million or two from the capitalists. Then they duly vanished. Years have passed and their children have congregated to divide their parents' money, but first there is the matter of arrangements and a funeral.

Hadachi, alias «Barefoot» (Marika Ito) est une cinéphile accomplie. Amatrice de chambara (film de samouraï) et de jidaigeki (drame historique), elle rêve de réaliser des films dans la lignée, entre autres, d'Akira Kurosawa (LES SEPT SAMOURAÏS) et Elihchi Kudo (13 ASSASSINS). Seulement, son club de cinéma parascolaire s’avère contraignant. Tous les membres préfèrent les films d’amour et vouent un culte au président du club ultra populaire et ultra agaçant, Karin (Mahiru Coda). Résolues à ne pas se laisser abattre, «Barefoot» et ses acolytes «Kickboard» (Yuumi Kawai) et «Blue Hawaii» (Kilala Inori) décident de réaliser leur propre film qu’elles présenteront au festival de l’école. Elles donnent même le rôle principal à Rintaro (Daichi Kaneko), un garçon assez étrange… qui se montre être encore plus bizarre que ce qu’elles s’imaginaient!
