Paul Rusesabagina, un hôtelier de Kigali, est terrifié. Hutu marié à une Tutsi, il tâche de protéger sa famille. Ne pouvant se résoudre à abandonner des gens à une mort certaine, il décide de transformer son établissement en refuge.
